Devanagari Drop caps

For my graduation project, I designed Devanagari drop caps or decorative initials—a design element traditionally associated with Latin scripts. This project allowed me to delve into the beauty and versatility of Devanagari letterforms, and to apply decorative and functional typographic techniques to a script that is less commonly explored in this context.

The project was done under the guidance and mentorship of Sarang Kulkarni and Noopur Datye at Whitecrow design, Mumbai.

The process began with four weeks of intensive calligraphy practice, helping me develop a deeper understanding of the letterforms.

I then explored multiple variations of the letter क to come up with its unique forms and expressions.
From this exploration, I selected four distinct forms and expanded them into a complete set of letters. Finally, these letters were further stylized and treated in different ways to create a series of visually compelling posters.
